I know it's cliche, but I wanted to remind everyone about today, the 8th year since the 9/11 attacks.
It seems a lot has been forgotten about that morning, and the weeks that followed. So I just wanted to ask each of you to try and remember exactly where you were, who you were with, and what you felt when you found out.

I was woken up early by my sister having the tv so loud. Being the asshole I am, I shouted, "Turn the tv down!". Then I heard my mom gasp and say, "Oh no!" So then I got up to see what the matter was, and on the news they showed that the first tower of the world trade center had been hit by a plane. That sure shut me up. There was a lot of confusion. None of the reporters mentioned terrorism, they we speaking about what an accident it was... until, live, on tv, we saw the second plane hit.

I mean, I cried. For my own selfish reasons at first.
I'd visited New York City once. And I loved it there. To see it mutilated now, to know the skyline would never be the same.

And when the towers collapsed, I can't even describe what I felt. Just knowing there were loads of PEOPLE still in there. Crumbling to the ground. Just dust.

When something so unimaginably horrible like that happens, it puts everything into perspective. No longer are your petty rivalries or your selfish wants important anymore. Through the loss of others, you realize what matters are the people around you, and the things you take for granted.

That's what I learned after 9/11. And I've tried to be a good person ever since. But it's easy to forget, because everday life gets in the way.
But today we should remember.

People didnt learn. They will never learn. For some reason 1 life is still more important then 2 thousand lives, or more then that.

Around 3000 people died that day. For no reason.

    It makes me feel sick.

I watched a programme on TV here in the UK just a day ago about all the unseen footage from 9/11 and my heart goes out to all the familys that have lost someone.

I was in school and with the time difference it was around 3pm and my mum picked me up and asked me if i had heard, and i replied no. When i got home i watched the news and couldnt beleive it.

Such a tradegy and i hope nothing ever like it happens again.

    Thanks for the reminder punkrock.

I was in 5th grade sitting in my moms room when I first heard about it. We sat there and watched the 2nd plane crash into the buildings. They fell shortly after I went to school.

It may not have made much sense to me then, but it eventually did play a role in me joining the military. Go Navy!

I still feel for the families that lost someone - I actually spoke to a Rear Admiral Upper Half (2 star Admiral in Navy) yesterday. He was in the wing of the Pentagon that got hit, but happened to leave to go somewhere else just before the plane flew into it.

I hope a memorial is built fairly soon.

I won't go too into detail because I'm sure it'll make some people hate me, but much worse things have happened and they don't get hardly as much attention as 9/11.

They don't get as much attention because they didn't happen to the US.

Lets be honest, what other country really matters? haha

But seriously, it was a tragedy. My school didn't tell me about what happened. Me and a friend went home and played video games for a bit until his mom told us as like 4. It never really sunk in to me.

I'd prefer if you went into more detail.

Bad shit happens everday. Unborn babies are being aborted, and born babies are being raised to be assholes. Some people are too fat and some people are starving. And cars are murdering defensless squirrels as we speak. Big deal, that's life.

But, this was a huge tragedy because it was a premeditated massacre of regular people just going about their lives. People who didn't deserve it. What's worse is that our government knew enough about it to prevent it. It's true that worse things have happened. But to lessen this occasion just because Hitler exterminated millions of Jews, or that a mudslide in Venezuela killed over 20,000 people were worse isn't the best thing for it.

But like iargue said, no one learned shit. If you don't care, that's fine. But at least you've been reminded.

If you had been told that airport security was being doubled and you had to wait two hours in security before you could fly, and the government just said there was a possibility of an attack. Would you have been happy? I dont think so.

If, because of this act, I was guaranteed safety and prevention, I'd have no issues. However, they cannot guarantee that.

After how we handled the first war in Iraq and the end of WW II, yes, you could guarantee that something could happen. Just not when.

Are you talking about the billions in economic aid, or using atomic bombs for WWII?

Ugh. Still stock on the ideal that we profited from WWII.

In every WAR someone PROFITS. There are greedy fuckheads who profited from WWII, and from WWII, and from every other major war.

The US government did not PROFIT. Therefore, "You guys" could not have profitied. Infact, millions of americans where poor because of it. We hard to ration off everything. Only greed fuckheads in corperations selling shit for high prices, or making weapons profited from War. Not the government.,

    Hmm,

You can never have garuanteed safety, if you want that go live in a bubble.

In my opinion it all boils down to Territory, and reasons to go to war. It is not a mere coincedence that Iraq is loaded with oil.

Actualy, 29's crisis only ended after the WWII began because of the belic industries.(At last this was what I learned/remember from 29's crisis)

I remember that when it happened I was 9 years old, and I was just watching my cartoons, pretty happy, lunching before going to school (here kids study at afternoon, usualy from 12p.m to 5:30p.m) when it changed to the world trade center, I remember being really angry and I just stared at the images of the smoke and the reporters speaking, I didn't undertand anything they were saying by then. I remember of my mom comming home earlier and comming to see me, then she looked at the TV and was astounished.
I only understood what happened to the WTC one year later x.x

But I agree with Hydro that worse stuff happened around the world and they aren't remembered because they didn't happen to the USA, but mostly were CAUSED by the USA, that's a reason for a lot of people to dislike the country, I have nothing agaisnt it, anyway( I don't hold grudges :p)

You're more likely to die at the hands of a pig police officer than an act of terrorism.

    Who's the real enemy.

Lol. Where the fuck are your sources on that?

The ratio was compiled using data from 2004 National Safety Council (NSC) Estimates, a report based on data from The National Center for Health Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition, 2003 mortality data from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) was used. http://www.nsc.org/research/odds.aspx

You are eight times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist

    Who's the real enemy?

Legal intervention involving firearm discharge, Y35.0 330 (deaths)

    Other and unspecified means and sequelae, X85-X92, X96-X98, Y00-Y09, Y87.1,*U01b 3,675 (deaths)
Other and unspecified means and sequelae, Y35.1-Y35.4, Y35.6-Y35.7, Y89.0 30

bThe manner of injury for ICD-10 code *U01 is Assault by Terrorism; for code *U03 it is Intentional Self-Harm by Terrorism

    1. I don't see how you reached this conclusion
    2. Even if 8x more people are killed on average per year by police than terrorists, I wouldn't say that you're 8x more likely to be killed by a cop. If you're armed and trying to sell drugs/robbing a bank obviously the odds will be higher than if you're just some random 9 to 5 office working in a suburban enviroment.

    Couldn't find anything in http://www.nsc.org/news/news04.aspx

Googling "You are eight times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist" just resulted in a bunch of biased sites saying

The following ratios were compiled using data from 2004 National Safety Council Estimates, a report based on data from The National Center for Health Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition, 2003 mortality data from the Center for Disease Control was used.

    Following it with something like

-- You are 11,000 times more likely to die in an airplane accident than from a terrorist plot involving an airplane

But not really citing it's sources

Ok, even checking http://www.cdc.gov/n...7/nvsr57_14.pdf it always lumps terrorist related deaths with other stuff, not individually. Having trouble finding the exact amount of deaths
