I read quite a few of the manga's but haven't seen any of the anime. I liked it and only quit reading cause our library ran out of "next book" I think I got as far as.. um.. when the guy who replaced L came in. (The first one chasing after his arse).

It can be boring, but the plot and theory behind it is sort of interesting. Imagine being able to write down the name of the person you wish to kill and them being gone with no rebute. Also as the story goes on, the main character becomes more corrupt which makes it interesting to watch him go from innocent only killing the guilty, to killing to save his own ass.
