I think I'd end up choosing Bulbasaur though.

I felt legit sad when I finished the Pokemon Tower the first time and I even gotten this pokemon in the first two games of mystery dungeon. In Blue, I remember being so happy I chose this pokemon to bring with me to the gyms and elite four. As far as starters goes, he will never be as strong, but it's a pokemon I find reasonable to start a journey with:

Flareon ....or dang maybe Glaceon as that may be my new favorite. (is it bad I'm slightly judgemental on what pokemons look like?)

Probably a Growlithe.  Growlithe & Arcanine are so cool and fluffy, plus I have a thing for fire Pokemon. 8D

It would definitely either be Charmander or Froakie. 

 

Charmander was my starter back when I played the old Red version as a kid, and Charizard was always real dependable. However, playing Y-version, Froakie/Greninja has proven to be an awesome part of my team and pretty dependable too. But Charmander beats Froakie in terms of cuteness...
