He may have been but I lurked here for at least 3 years before creating a new account and posting for the first time and I've openly said it was because of Sweeney that I never wanted to post and join the community to begin with. (This was prior to him being a mod)

Because it seemed like, without knowing anyone here, he trolled everyone and started arguments all the time and made it a point to tell everyone how much smarter he was.

 

He may have been a good mod but I doubt I'm the only person who steered clear of any thread he'd commented on because I just didn't want to deal with that crap.

 

When I first posted here 2-3 years ago, Sweeney took no moment longer to criticism all my posts that made no sense or was just plain wrong. Although it was irritating and disheartening that someone would go out of their way just to say you're a, and I quote, a fucktwit, I'm actually thankful for all the ridicule he gave me. In the end, he helped me become less of an innocent troll bait, made me more conscious what I posted and made me critical of what other people posted. He's like an amazing person for doing so.

 

I still hate him.

I think I'm one of few people who actually liked Sweeney. I would go to post something and be like, I can't, that's mean. And then I'd wait a bit and Sweeney would say it. 

That's not saying he wasn't mean to me, though. He made me cry one time and I just figured it wasn't his fault I was on the internet.

But in all reality, it's pretty simple. Some people don't know how to take criticism and get really offended at some of the shit that was thrown their way. It can be difficult if you feel bad about warning/suspending people you make connections to. After you get burned a couple times, you probably either quit or stop giving a fuck about hurting feelings.

nah, once you got to know him he's actually a pretty cool guy?? he was just speaking his mind and didn't take shit from anyone (i can totally understand this one!!! people on the internet can be really freaking annoying/dumb)

Whether anyone likes it or not Sweeney does show people how idiotic they can be at times. He's gone and made me angry in multiple scenarios, but I think back to them and see how right he was when he criticized my actions.

It's the internet. You're going to learn to have a thick skin or risk getting burned.

of course it all depends if the person likes you in the first place?? but most of the time if you try and get to know someone a bit better (like, talk to them a bit in private or where there aren't all that many people?) you'll find out that they're like a nearly completely different person. since a lot of people to put on a different little persona when they're talking in a place where there are a lot of people/people they're unfamiliar with ┐( ´ Д ` )┌

He didn't pretend. He was an outright asshole to some people, including me. Him hurting my feelings didn't scare me off, though. One can't let the things one person out of an entire community says scare them off so easily.

The point here is that he isn't an asshole to everyone, every second of his life. There are people here that he acknowledges as they do him. If his ideology was "being an asshole to everyone" then he wouldn't take note of Nymh or even being marrying her soon. If you watched his Life Scout videos that he did with her and the kids then you can see that he treats them rather well for being such an douchebag.

ok dude listen and just put a bit of thought into this for a bit, its really really common for people to act/speak differently depending on the situation they're in and/or who they're talking to? the same applies online???? like, when you chat with chappy (online or in real life) do you talk to her in the same sort of tone you use when you talk to people in general. and its completely understandable for someone to "act like a jerk" towards people who said person can't tolerate? you're really not obliged to be nice to anyone who you dislike? and what the actual fuck if he was scared of socialising why has he been on this forum for so long, with all those posts, and now being with nymh???? ?? you're not making all that much sense hahah

More seniored members of Codex know to shrug off Sweeney's behavior as "Sweeney being himself". You cannot expect that same sentiment from noobs however.

 

I'm not going to go out of my way to see how Sweeney treated THE CHILDREN OF THE WOMAN HE LOVES. I mean...he'd be a completely different level of asshole if he treated them badly lol.  Again, most judge people on how they treat the MANY not the FEW. As unfair as that is, it's reality.

The big issue is that people are being too scared or threatened to join a big community based on one user's actions. New users are too blinded by his bitterness to realize that the rest of the community is nice and will most likely support them as they try to fit in at the beginning.

I can sympathize for younger users that join because they may not know the ropes of socializing and the internet yet, but if some 20 some year old swings by and feels too threatened by some nerd spouting mean words to people then it's something they might need to work on.
