This thread isn't about who loves or hates Sweeney.
I'd feel bad if he came back to read some of these comments :/ NOT VERY NEIGHBOURLY.

This thread could be about who loves or hates Sweeney.

If he did read my comments, he'd probably call me a fucktwit, but somehow feel satisfied that his teacherly ways (to make me less of a fucktwit) wasn't in vain.

Okay, trying to be on topic. I don't remember much about Sweeney being a subjectively good or bad moderator, but the way I see it, he has his mind-probing style as a person and the current mods have their own unique style. Don't worry, I will not become like a new Sweeney. I don't have time to antagonize everyone.

Let me know when you've dealt with riots, being shot at, stabbing victims, dead babies and greenpeace loonies

I'll keep it in my notes to pass the message along. Even if I was a police officer, I live in Eastern Canada. Odds are I wouldn't see too much, except for some brawls between the young military guys and folks off the reserve.

'Bullshit' is subjective. In his case, he was -always- right no matter what and he always thought contrary to what others believed. He'd usually attack them thus sparking conversation as well as unnecessary drama.

Make like House GOP and only appease your largest donors

    This totally escaped everyone's attention.

Arman for mod of an invisible section!
    *waves Canadian flag*

So you've discovered that you can see invis'd sections, and that STM was a mod here once upon a time. Which one still exists, LPC or Lineage?

I don't think he was always right, nor do I think that he would say as much. True, he was pretty vocal when he knew something, and he wasn't shy about sharing his own opinion, but that's quite a ways away from saying he thought he was omniscient.

Attack is a weasel word (in the wikipedia tradition). I think it would be more accurate to say that he wasn't shy about telling them they're wrong. If he was talking to someone who he had previously told they were wrong, his contempt for idiocy might have tinged the response, but I don't think he was malicious about it save for one or two people.

I think people are overlooking his intellectualism and genuine kindheartedness and extrapolating his gruffness as contempt and arrogance. But that's just my opinion.

P.S. @Kate, I suppose your job is hard, but really, a thread about it? I know we're all self-centered because we're on the internet in the first place, talking about our personal problems and ignoring the injustices of society, but this topic really just seems like the icing on the cake, doesn't it?

woo time for a rant hahaha

i'm not saying he was right the whole time (he's just human like the rest of us) but just because the person he's criticizing personally doesn't agree with it doesn't necessarily mean he's wrong ya know ┐( ´ Д ` )┌ and then there's the issue of people taking words on the internet WAY too personally and seriously and actually letting it get to them. if it offends you so much you can i dunno, not read it it or close the tab or even using the ignore feature. but mmn, i think calling someone's bullshit out and saying they're wrong is a decent way for them to maybe learn from it and become a better person? attack is really the wrong word to use here. being honest and direct with someone is better than just sitting around hoping they'll mature and learn from their shit and this never actually happens with some people. with being told "you know, you're not doing that right/what you said was wrong" its easier to see what the issue is and potentially grow and learn from it. of course you'll never get anywhere if you argue that you're not wrong without even putting some thought into it

Well, I think it's showing that she actually cares. Some people may just think a mod is warning/banning someone without reason or without knowing all of the backstory. Maybe not our current mods (and maybe because I know them) but you never know what other people may think about them. It's nice to see that she's actually shows she cares and that she has emotions just like the rest of us. People get mad at mods for warning them and don't even stop to think that this mod is another human being because they can't actually see what's behind the computer. And sometimes mods need to spill their guts too - why can't she spill her guts to the people that she cares about?

there's the issue of people taking words on the internet WAY too personally and seriously and actually letting it get to them.

Socializing on the internet and socializing irl isn't that different. If you had a differing opinion with someone face to face and they called you names and acted like a condescending asshole toward you I'm sure you wouldn't like it and respond positively to it. The internet is a great place to get different perspective and opinions from people, but things can go wrong when people try use the internet as an excuse to act like a condescending dbag to people because it's between a computer screen. I don't think stuff like that is ok, it's very fake behavior. You should treat people on the internet just like you would treat people irl, like the adults they are. Have you ever been introduced to someone and immediately just started telling them how stupid and wrong they are just because they don't think the same that you do? I highly doubt it, then why do it over the internet? There are people behind these computer screens and not everyone can just not react when someone is rude and disrespectful to them.

ok i get what you mean and i agree! people should be nice on the internet but we can't moderate how every single person types and all. if you have a problem with a person or they have a problem with you, since we're on the internet and not in real life you have a LOT of options to just ignore them. like scrolling past the post! not reading it, not responding to it, reporting it, blocking them, closing the tab/browser/application, turning the computer. a lot of people have hurt my feelings even though we're just on the internet in the past so i just blocked them and moved on with my life. why is it so impossible for everyone else :s

but hey Whatever right hahah fuck this noise i'm outta here *ollies the heck out* 5cZYn.gif
