That's possible.
I'm not sure that waiting at most 46 days is really a big deal, though
Oh, haha. I was thinking you guys would make it like every 6 months or even longer.

i'm slightly worried with the monthly private members application. for this month there has been only 2 applications and only a single application accepted. there are lots of eligible applicants but no one dares to apply. what happens if no one applies next month?
I'd never apply for private, because I do not feel like I'd ever be qualified to apply. Maybe others feel the same.

I think people think it's much more exclusive than it really is.

I'm guessing it's the application part which puts some people off? I know it did for me the one time I applied for Private waaaaaay back in the day... (I was rejected
).

it's nothing to be afraid of, it's just another "rank" for people who have been on the forum for longer and contributed to posting/activeness

Is that a part of the risk assessment for the board?

I applied once and got rejected, no big deal. Hold tight the adv+ crew, that's where the real party is at anyways ![]()

Don't let the simplicity of achieving said rank fool you
.

Exactly what Kate said. Thanks for bringing that to mention. I just always was under the impression it was reserved for the elite/programmers only.
Posted 20 July 2014 - 11:21 AM
also since private voting is open to private/retired members now you have more of a chance to get in versus when it was just staff voting.
Posted 20 July 2014 - 11:21 AM
I guess we just need to communicate the ranks and their requirements better if some people aren't sure about them.
Posted 20 July 2014 - 11:23 AM
Or I could have researched more. My mistake and comprehending.

Could we move the Abrosia discussion to the forum help section? That way it's more clear that it's the forum to seek help regarding Abrosia.
The forum help section is for help with the forum.
Also, minor update the the first post... ![]()

Forum Help is for help with the forum, Program Discussion is for discussing the programs.

Might want to update the thread title too. ![]()

Fizzle's idea of branching out to youtube and social media sites is a brilliant idea along with programs for other popular games.
I wish the game I liked was more popular. I wish I could cheat on it ![]()

New GFX section
In a similar way to how the programming part of the site needs an overhaul, a GFX team could be created. I know contests are already up and running which is a good sign but more and more activity needs to be implemented for it to be a success.
For this the GFX team could also work alongside the e-zine team, the contest team, the programmers...etc. Making graphics for the e-zine is pretty self explanatory, and i remember the old short comics someone used to make were always awesome. Graphics for contests to make the post look super pretty and official, this alone has potential to bring more entries if it looks a lot more exciting. And graphics for the programs themselves if needed, or even to advertise the programs. At least then they won't just be waiting on people to make requests for sigs, and have more of a hand in contributing to the site as a whole.

Overhaul of the programming section:
A lot of the sites programs are very outdated and buggy. These need to be improved as they are the main selling point of our site and drives new members to the site.
I believe we used to say "come for the programs, stay for the community". How are we supposed to gain new members if our site's programs are deplorable.
We have a couple of options which are already being considered on that subject.
Can't go into any more detail than that right now, unfortunately, but it's definitely being discussed.
We would need to advertise and encourage new programmers as well. I don't really see much activity from any of the sites main programmers.
Maybe introduce some kind of tutorship and guides for new members who wish to partake in programming and encourage newer programmers to home their skills on our site. I know we used to implement something like that years ago, but unforunately that seems to have disappeared.
We already welcome any and all contributions by programmers, and we do try to help when anybody has any questions but it just seems to be less popular than it used to be for some reason.
A few years ago people used to create programs purely because they wanted to create programs which led to an active programming section but people don't really seem that interested any more.
We would also need to branch out to new forms of gaming as neopets isn't as sustainable as it once was. Flight rising is a new game that keeps popping up so if it increases in popularity we should have a stranglehold on new programmes and guides so we're at the forefront of new sites like the aforementioned.
Agreed.
Monthly/bi weekly updates.
Similar to the old ezine part of the site we used to have. It'd be a small team who would constantly update the members on how the site has been doing over the last month and upcoming events.
Contests, programming updates, general site overview, new applications, changes etc...
It would take very little time to implement and even less to run at no cost to the site. The benefits would be huge though.
It'd also give some members a chance to contribute to the site it they joined the e-zine team if they wish.
Certainly a possibility, I'd probably think monthly would be better than bi-weekly though so people don't just get sick of it.
New GFX section
In a similar way to how the programming part of the site needs an overhaul, a GFX team could be created. I know contests are already up and running which is a good sign but more and more activity needs to be implemented for it to be a success.
Tutorials and guides on the various different programmes (GIMP, photoshop, adobe products, flash etc) would again encourage new members.
Combined with people who are profilent in CSS and HTML, it would increase activity and give members a chance to showcase their skills as well as encouraging members to try new ways of improvising the site.
Graphics is kind of in a similar situation to the programming part, it just seems less to be popular than it was which is why it's been sidelined.
If there's enough interest in it though it's definitely something we can look at.
Introduction of a Retired leader
This one is pretty simple. Similar to the private leader, a retired leader would just oversee the retired section, handle nominations and take a small percentage of the work load from administrators.
I don't really think that's a necessary position right now, personally. Given the activity level in Retired there's not much that would justify a leadership position. ![]()
Staff overhaul
Staff members need a more organised and accountable system for their actions or lack of. A more prudent set of guidelines on their roles and actions is needed as well as encouragement for more activity whilst maintaining a positive bridge between regular members and staff.
I would always find the nemonic PLAN from my day job to be an effective way to oversee staff actions.
P - proportionate. Are staff members actions proportionate to the incident at hand. Could it use improvement due it's effect or lack of, on the incident members.
L - Legality - pretty simple for these situations. Are actions made by staff legal and within standard operating procedures for the site.
A - Accountability - a big one. Are staff members accountable for their actions, behaviour and posts on the board? Are there spreadsheets or documentation to show how many times a staff members has warned a particular member as so to discourage harassment/bullying accusations? Are staff members being held responsible for their actions and behaviour towards other members? This would also be a good way of accounting activity of staff members and see what areas they are more likely to be involved in (moving/merging topics, banning/warning members, deleting posts, overseeing PMs etc).
N - Necessity. Are staff members truly utilising all their available options, and if not, is their course or action necessary to the incident they are moderating and to the site as a whole. Could there be better ways of dealing with members and is their action necessary as a whole.
We've already had discussions about activity levels and communication so we're aware of issues there. In regard to the rest, personally I think the current staff team at moderator level are doing pretty well.
Social media
Implementation of social media and other forums is a must. A YouTube, Twitter, reddit, Facebook and other accounts must be set up to branch and increase advertisement for the site to encourage newer members to join.
Again, cost nothing, huge impact. You could again encourage other members to hold these accounts and encourage people to join, posting information on reddit, YouTube guides, Facebook contests and so forth. It's a no-brainer really.
We do have social media presence but we haven't had the time to maintain it so that's definitely something which could be addressed.
I do have some other opinions on activity of the current administration, how often they meet, site finances and resources but these deserve a more intimate forum for discussion.
Indeed. The subject of site finances and resources would be confidential though and won't necessarily be discussed with anybody either outside of the employ of the site or in active commercial discussions (and should/would remain confidential between any interested parties anyway).

Can someone not spend an hour or two on hootsuite a week and set up a whole week's worth of posts for social media outlets? We do have social media presence but we haven't had the time to maintain it so that's definitely something which could be addressed.
