It means that he had two responses to one post directed to neither of you - one of those responses being a rather rude rhetorical question asking him if he is able to read by the Private Leader of these boards.

So it probably means to keep his chin up and to keep directing his posts to who they are intended for, especially since it is Jess and she is always very respectful.

Because I don't know about you, but I would feel extremely disheartened being new to the boards and having the Private Leader ask me if I am illiterate.

Well I'm pretty sure when you post on a public forum anyone can respond to it whether you're specifically talking to them or not. Don't act like you've never responded to a post that wasn't directed at you before. The point is this conversation has been going on for a while now and it's annoying to watch a person jump in when they clearly haven't educated themselves on the current trajectory of said conversation.

You are correct. I suppose I just hold the Private Leader to higher standards - being that they should not be rude and disrespectful to other members.

This is Codex not the United Nations. But anyway I'm glad to find another person who agrees that sex work isn't inherently empowering. Usually when I voice a negative opinion of porn/sex work in feminist circles I'm accused of being a SWERF.

Oh god I just googled what that meant. You are not a SWERF and neither am I. There is no 'whorephobia' here. People are just ridiculous.

There's a thread for sarcasm already. Let's not turn this one into one. Let's keep sarcasm where it belongs.

I think Pamela Anderson is right about porn. It has completely warped sexuality for the worst.

Is this really an unpopular opinion? The subject doesn't really come up often but most of the people I've discussed it with seem to be on that page.

Are you able to read? Legitimately asking. It's been pointed out that this was rude of me. I am sorry. This was discussed in previous pages.

Nice "strike so I can pretend remorse but that guy can still read it".

lol

lol indeed.

This isn't really a diabetes thread either, so...yeah...

I was guessing he had already read it because he had been viewing the thread when I posted, and removing it seemed just as disingenuous. I said it. I can't take that back.

But if you actually look at the statistics of people who consume porn theyre very high. Like it's a billion dollar industry so they're probably just saying that but still watching it.

At the risk of making this even more of a diabetes thread, I would like to come to Ubermensch's defense here. Maybe I am being dense, or just glazed over the part talking of a cure, but I don't know that we discussed a cure for type1. We talked about how it isn't just genetic (there are other unknown factors leading to it's development), but he was asking about a cure. Jess talked about people saying they have been cured, but again I think this is actually controlling, not curing. So, I don't think it is appropriate to put him down when we haven't answered his question. But if we did already discuss a cure, please quote it to me and I will humbly call myself an asshat.

I don't think the word cure was ever explicitly used. But Jess mentioned the success ketogenic diets have in treating, and reversing some of the effects of type 1.

I linked a source and mentioned a few different studies regarding how you would cure it. No, I didn't explicitly point out a cure that would work for everyone, other than diet and lifestyle changes, which I alluded to repeatedly in discussing gene expression. The reason is because there is no one outline that can be used for everyone. It would depend on you as an individual, much like different people respond to different "medical treatments" and different doses for the same illness. We don't have the same genetic makeup nor genetic risk factors and would have variations in our cures.

Gestational diabetes isn't real either btw

And yes, I am using cure, not control. My bf and I debated this yesterday also because he thinks it's not a "cure" either. But to cure is to relieve of symptoms and I think it's ridiculous to think anyone could just shove whatever they feel like in their bodies and not expect consequences, which unfortunately is how a lot of people live their lives. Just because it's fda approved edible doesn't mean it's going to give you the nutrient density you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

@Kaddict @ubermencsh @Coops
And I'm really not interested in discussing this further. There's enough buzzwords and points of reference in the past couple pages anyone can google and come to the same conclusion I have, if they're that interested. I'm going to tag all of you in forty years when I'm proven inconclusively right though.

As a segue back to unpopular opinions, idk if this is one or not: Wilford Brimley is one of the most effective advertisers on the planet. (sidenote: I don't know if he is still alive or not. If not, may he rest in sweet sugary peace).

Hmm, didn't seem any studies proving there was a cure, that's why I asked if there was one. I mean, if you believe that simply changing your lifestyle will cure your pancreas from producing less insulin, then I guess that's your prerogative.

No offence intended.

I agree with you on that. Apparently my dad had out-of-control diabetes (Type 2 from a not-so unhealthy lifestyle, and with both his parents being genetically inclined), which damaged his pancreas and kidneys. He has been able to prevent further damage to his organs by getting the diabetes under control, and his available insulin is enough for his diet of rabbit food. He still isn't producing insulin at the rate of a person without pancreatic damage, so he isn't cured, he's just controlling his condition. It's still there, and will make itself known if he goes off his diet.. So it wouldn't make sense to me to say he's cured. Is it still called Type 2 if the pancreas is damaged and not producing enough insulin? Can you start off with Type 2 and end up with Type 1?

Also, we need a topic about medical stuff, so I can pick the brains of our Codex aspiring and established health professionals.

It is still type 2. Type 2 initially starts with higher levels of insulin in the body, but it just isn't working because the organs/muscle/fat etc become more resistant to insulin. Eventually, the beta cells in the pancreas get jacked up to the point where their body insulin becomes lower (since there aren't enough insulin producing cells in the pancreas to keep up with demand). It can be a bit confusing.

This is actually pretty cool to know! The doctor had told him to lose weight and exercise to increase his insulin sensitivity, which has helped quite a lot. Thanks for explaining, I appreciate it :)

I'm not offended, I'm just pregnant and have the patience level of a crackhead.
And there aren't studies involving people proving there's a cure. Like I said, there's no funding for that right now.

Thank you, I was getting confused when people were saying there was a cure when in reality it sounded like Facebook hoaxes and pseudo-science.

They're doing the testing in rats currently and hopefully they'll be redoing the original testing soon afterward, so it'll be real science quick enough.

Tbh though, I don't really care. I mean, why walk when you have a car? It seems like there are plenty of people who would think it's just as easy or easier to stay on the regimen they're familiar with than change to something new, so it would probably still be a few generations away after its accepted in mainstream medicine.

Let's kick things off then.

I believe in eugenics, and that only genetically viable people should reproduce. History of diabetes, heart/brain issues will result in a mandatory vasectomy/hysterectomy.

Mandatory check ups at a state hospital, any form of disability or disease and the feteus is aborted.

Saves the state billions, society progresses, the gene pool wins.

You forgot to include the prejudiced morons.

I don't know how many billions that could save, but the world would be thankfully to not be graced with such "human" beings. I know I would :)

I think it's impossible to numerate potential savings on perceived predujices.
