#1848552 The stigma against gay behavior

Posted by Josh on 17 February 2015 - 09:30 PM

Well the problem is that one of the groups doesn't have the same legal and civil rights as the other, so it's not such an issue as "I'm mad because they don't want to see it" but more "I'm mad because they won't allow me to be seen"

Gotta be there in person to see that shit

I was more referencing people getting mad at others for having different views, the legal view wasn't really mentioned in the OP. The amount of hatred I receive for simply not liking two men kissing is always incredibly ironic to me. Bullying people for their views is just as destructive both ways.

#1848489 I have a 'cheaters' question about the internet...

You're most likely be throttled, however it's possible the apartment is saturating the allotted bandwidth.

If the copper wire is coming from the wall and plugged into your own router, you're not going to be able to track anything beyond your own usage (at least not without a ton of effort and some illegal stuff).

You can bypass throttling by encrypting your connection. Easiest way to do that is using a VPN.

#1791602 Am I a "bad" person? Are you?

The more religious you are, the more you feel qualified to judge other people for their sins.

Are you speaking on behalf of the rest of the world who identify themselves as being religious?

Grandmaster, I highly recommend learning how to focus your writing, especially coming from a religious background in the debate section. It took me awhile to learn, but once you learn how to pick out the meaningful responses from the facetious ones it becomes a lot more manageable.

#1633051 Reason for Visiting Neocodex

Posted by Josh on 08 October 2012 - 01:55 PM

This is interesting. I now want to steer the conversation to the below point:

Hydrogen, Pyro699 and I were talking just now about how we don't like the forum as it exists right now. We believe that the forum's main purpose should provide a support role to the products and services that we offer. Instead, we spend a good chunk of time dealing with some people's dramatic behaviour and encouraging a community that is rather dysfunctional in our eyes. A good portion of these people don't even have any interest in what we do here -- only to cause trouble, or "stir the shit".

Why should we bother with this anymore? After all, we know from our work a couple years ago that if we make quality products, people will come. We would have something that they cannot get anywhere else. No giveaways or community events are going to coerce as many people to come as having quality products will.

This is something I've pondered for awhile as well. The origin of Neocodex was essentially a cheating community. In fact, for the longest time it was a private cheating community, and it was almost an honor to have an invite here. Neocodex didn't sell products at that time, however as you stated the main pull for the community was people seeking programs. At that time Neocodex was completely community supported, since most of the programs came from programmers like myself, Mumei, Raredaredevil, etc.

So, for the longest time, I'd say at least four years, Neocodex was a community driven Neopets cheating community. Then, with the introduction of subscriptions, and mainly Abrosia, there was obviously a shift in the focus of Neocodex. Now, rather than being purely community supported and focused, it now became product focused. However, not even a shift like that can remove 4 years of community experience.

For me, it boils down to the roots of Neocodex and how the staff feel about it. Why should you maintain the community here? Because the community provided a lot for Neocodex over it's life, and in some sense Neocodex owe's it to the members to at least attempt to maintain it. However, on the business side of things, it makes perfect sense to scrap half the forum and just focus on customer satisfaction and program research and development. I think it just comes down to how the staff feels. Do you really want the community anymore, or would you rather pursue the business side of things?

#1629265 Why is anti-gay behavior seemingly condoned in sports?

Posted by Josh on 21 September 2012 - 03:29 PM

At least your priorities are straight, then.

What you're trying to imply has already been nullified by the fact that I've already stated I'm on really good terms with everyone, including those who are openly homosexual, on my boat. I've only ever once had to actually report hazing, and the person who was being hazed (a good friend of mine) was very appreciative afterwards because another shipmate choose to try and stop the hazing the incorrect way and only made it worse for the both of them since the person harassing simply became even more belligerent and made a bigger scene.. Why are you so insistent on framing me as being a coward?

Yeah, it does. You let it happen and then tell tales, instead of standing up to them yourself. There's no reason you can't do both... Save cowardice.

If its a junior person, then I can use positional authority. However, it turns out I'm still pretty junior and we are taught to use the chain of command when someone above your rank pulls something like that. To be honest Joe your not in the American submarine force therefore you have no place telling me how my job works. No offense, but I've been doing this for 3 years now and I know the proper ways to do things.

And yes, there is a reason I can't do both, it's called disobeying a direct order. Fact is, as heroic as it may seem at the time, those kind of stunts can land you in Captain's Mast (I've seen it happen) and be a real quick end to a forward progressing career. I've never had a problem with taking the correct action, and I've been able to remain friends and close shipmates with all of the openly homosexual men on my crew. So, I really don't see why you're trying to tell me that's not the case.

I thought it was implied, since you were talking about the normative behaviors of "your crew," you are a member of said crew whose mindset you were trying to explain, and you didn't state that you didn't participate in this behavior. Sorry for assuming, I guess.

Yes, its not good to make character assumptions about someone you hardly know. That type of behavior is not acceptable to me. I was merely explaining what I experienced while working in a male dominated field.

#1625284 Usershop Autobuyer - What do you want?

Posted by Josh on 06 September 2012 - 06:32 PM

Greetings,

So, since there's no official UAB shipped with the program manager, I'm developing one in conjunction with my Python library to help give it some testing. However, as in the olden times, I like to come to the actual program user candidates first before I begin publishing anything. So, with that said, what would you desire in a UAB?

The current process I have in mind is thus:

  • Load a list of items from a plain text file, separated by new lines
  • Prior to sniping, the program will look up each item on the Neocodex Item DB and determine it's value
  • Then, it will use various methods to determine whether or not an item is worth buying. In example, the program will deduct x amount of np from the value and then only buy shop wizard results equal to or lower than the reduced value.
  • Program runs through the list searching for items that match the above criteria

In terms of features, this is what I have in mind so far:

  • If bought item is UB, send to SDB
  • Stock and automatically price bought items
  • Shop till watcher
  • Custom refresh and wait times
  • Automatic shop wizard banned waiting
  • Automatic completion of pesky Faerie quests (or just ignore/cancel them)

And, with all my applications, multiple user support within the application (no need to open multiple program instances). Any input, critiques, and general feedback is appreciated :)

#1615979 Experimenting with a new frontpage layout

Posted by Josh on 12 August 2012 - 06:12 PM

I took some of your guys' suggestions and incorporated them into the landing page :). Hopefully that's a bit better :).

The landing page is actually live now! http://www.neocodex.us

You might need to clear your cache :(.

That's much better. Although I would move the "How do I get started" slot up one. I feel like FAQ's should always come last, just feels natural :p
