#1523288 Occupy Wall Street - A protest of huge proportions

Posted by leurz on 29 October 2011 - 06:48 PM

Just got to this thread and I agree with Joanna. The OWS movement isn't about the wealth discrepancy per se, but more about how corporate interests lobby the government and fund their campaigns, so they, in turn, will make and enforce legislation that is in the benefits of corporate interests, and not those of the vast majority of actual human beings.

According to Maddox, "Being an engineer, teacher or airline pilot is hard. Being a logger, deepsea fisher, coal miner or firefighter is hard and dangerous." I would posit that being born into wealth or being a stock-market-shuffler is neither hard nor dangerous, and in addition, provides nothing tangibly useful to anyone. Just because somebody was born on easymode does not mean they work harder or are more useful to society than anybody else.

I would also disagree with Cody, in that I believe that the exact strength of the OWS movement is their lack of a plan. If OWS came up with any plan, any at all, the next round of politicians (funded by Nacho Cheese Doritos) would promise that exact thing, and not deliver once elections rolled around. Republican vs. Democrat isn't good enough anymore.

#1408693 This always bothers me with 360's

Posted by leurz on 13 February 2011 - 10:18 AM

I don't remember attacking him actually, I remember him attacking me maybe you should read his first post.
I retorted back at him, I won't deny that. I don't remember calling him names or anything either noit.

I don't remember getting trouble in any other topic either noit, I remember people attacking me for my opinion.

Am I missing something?

As an end user you can still talk about the shortcomings of a piece of software.

If it doesnt do something you think it should be capable of doing, if it's got ANY issues at all, you can still talk about them. You can't offer any advice on how to fix it etc, but you still have the ability to complain about it.

It looks like soul_stealer was just saying that your opinion is VALID and should be shared, despite the fact that you aren't a programmer,
and that it's okay for non-programmers to share their personal experiences and to complain about the system.
I don't understand how this was a attack. Posted Image

On topic, I am too poor for PS3, and i'm just damn grateful that I have the opportunity to play the 360.
Usually the slowness of my crappy rural internet gives me problems long before I would even think of being upset about the UI.

#1394281 Small Town vs Big City

Posted by leurz on 20 January 2011 - 09:53 AM

So i'm on a three hour commute (one way) to get to the main branch of my university.

Anyway, it's a stiff crowd in the big city. In a small town, you don't get within five feet of anyone without eye contact, and some kind of verbal or nonverbal greeting.
Whats with this whole ignoring people thing? I was trying to make small talk before class (a small class at that) with some people at my table. It was painful.

I think small towns have a certain warmth and friendliness to them that you can't get in a city.

Discuss.

Also, other good/bad things to do with cities/small towns

#1394275 Why are y'all all plagiarizing my custom-made avatar?!

#1394247 If you don't speak English, stay the hell out of America, seriously!

Posted by leurz on 20 January 2011 - 08:52 AM

I don't think you're upset at these people because they don't speak English, but because they are just A-holes. If they weren't selectively using their English to be asses, they would be doing something else.

There's no need to go and be a bigot about language, especially in America. I mean, in other countries, that would make sense. America is a nation of immigrants and to insist on assimilation is something that the Chinese would do.....so quit being a commy.

#1392916 Just found out 'Noitidart' works for TnT...

#1389928 I got someone arrested..

Posted by leurz on 12 January 2011 - 06:28 PM

My 2 cents
-No, you don't have to go to court, so don't.
-How about you volunteer at an animal shelter for a few days to offset the karmic balance

He probably won't get anything but probation, which isn't too bad, and he won't be able to get a job working with kids.

We need to be thinking of a KICKASS story for Adina to tell friends at school.

I think she should say the cops needed her psychic abilities to solve a crime.
It will keep the friends lol'ing and avoid awkward silences.
You could also say you were the mastermind behind the wikileaks ddos attacks.
Any other suggestions for stories?

My oldest account with 3 cybunnies on it and money/items is getting purged in a few weeks. TNT won't give me the password coz it's on the purge list :(
I just have to watch it go.
