#1587866 What is your stance?

Posted by travis on 21 May 2012 - 05:42 PM

I own an HK USP .40 Compact and I'm licensed to carry it on my person at all times in a concealed fashion.

I never, ever leave my home without it. The only time it's not attached to my torso when I'm outside of my house is in gov't buildings, schools and airports (where firearms are not permitted), or when I go to the bar. In those instances, it's under the seat of my car.

I've never had to use it to defend myself or anyone else, and I hope I never need to. But I won't hesitate.

Point of that being, I am 100% in favor of controlled gun rights.

#1537284 Occupy Protests: Helpful or not?

Posted by travis on 14 December 2011 - 06:53 PM

I'm so disappointed. I have NEVER seen this much ignorance on Neocodex, and I've been around the block here several times.

Protests get things done. Protests made a difference, and they get things done - history tells us this is true (click for info). There IS a clear message to the Occupy movement. But guess what? Occupy is a left wing movement. Who dominates media and government? The right. The right media portrays Occupy in an ultra negative light and only displays what does so. The right government just ignores it - because they can. For now. The message of Occupy is to end corporate greed and end corporations being treated as and given the same rights as human beings. But why don't you know that? Because the right doesn't want you to. Media doesn't want you to. The thunderous voice of millions of people united for one cause will - nay, CAN NOT be ignored for long. This will make a difference. And Occupy won't go anywhere until it does.

This thread has me seeing red.

#1527318 READ MY WORDS

Posted by travis on 09 November 2011 - 08:47 PM

Pretext
Sometimes I just want to talk about my life to people I don't know - tonight is another one of those. I've been around here for so damn long...which is why I choose to come here to do this.

Carrying off of the back of this one:

http://www.neocodex....you-on-my-life/

end pretext

That engagement that I was so excited about was short lived. The girl I proposed to in May took a trip to Italy to visit some family members in August, and upon her return we were set to sign a lease on an apartment and move in together. I was pretty good pals with her neighbor and stopped by to chat for a few when she was out of town. Well...turns out she never left - I saw her out and about outside her house. She didn't see me and I pretended not to see her at the time.
The next day I went over with her things in tow, gave them back to her, and told her it was over. I didn't have to explain why, she already knew. The tattoo I got on my ring finger commemorating our engagement was simply covered with a solid line of black ink. Her and I still chat occasionally, but I haven't seen her since and I have no desire to. She got back with her son's abusive father, and they're engaged - dodged a bullet, I feel.

I'd managed to dig myself into a financial hole during this time with reckless spending on borrowed dollars, and time came to pay those dollars back - I didn't have it. As it sits right now, I'm $500 negative with other bills to pay on top of that - pulling $1200 a month was absolutely not cutting it. Fortunately business has been good at work and I'll be able to climb out of that hole next week.

Between her and I splitting and just this last Saturday, the days just kind of blended together and I was flowing through like a zombie with nothing at all special to look forward to. The days really to seem like one big thing when there's nothing worth caring about separating them. Its honestly quite miserable. And then something..or someone that separated the uninteresting days reared her beautiful head.

I met my current interest in September at a work-related corporate training event. She's a coworker but I'd never seen her before, and a mutual friend introduced us. I friended her on Facebook and began the shy-guy trying-to-make-actual-friends with her...took a while, and I made three passive attempts to get her phone number so I could talk to her more. Shot down all three times...damn. A short while later she asked me to work on her car (me being a mechanic and all), and I finally got her phone number. So we're just talking about when/where I'm gonna do said things to her car, and I asked what I was getting out of this endeavor. I was told to tell her what I want, and my lightbulb turned on. I typed in the text message box, "How about you just let me take you out sometime?" and thought about whether I should send that or not for at least ten minutes. The brave side of me reared its amazing head and I hit send. She said okay. I never pursued this any further because I just kind of figured she was agreeing because I was working on her car. Whatever!
Last Tuesday (about a month and a half after the aforementioned event) my coworker told me in confidence that she asked him when I was going to actually make plans with her to go out. This gave me light that she wasn't just agreeing to keep her end of the deal. I immediately went and hunted her down (believed me, a car dealership is a big place) and made plans with her for that Saturday. I picked her up that night and...well, it was by far the best date I have ever been on. There was no end to the flow of conversation - and for the first time I was able to speak exactly what was on my mind - you see I think in memes (damn you internet) and...well, so does she. We went to an outdoors concert with some damn bands that I've never heard of and enjoyed the 46 degree evening. She got cold and YAY CUDDLE TIME. OH GOD SHE'S ACTUALLY INTO ME MAYBE FUCK THIS IS AMAZING. She got cold and we left, walked around Freemont Street for a little while, and decided to head back to my car...and got lost. So we're wandering around downtown Las Vegas for like 45 minutes lost as all hell. YAY ADVENTURE TIME. Found the car, went to iHop for breakfast-dinner, and I took her home. A hug and a kiss on the cheek? Fuck this night could NOT be any better. I can't get this girl out of my head.

Anyways...that was really the whole point of this. I just wanted to talk about my new interest and our great first date in immense detail to a whole bunch of strangers.

I might end up spending this Christmas at home alone - my brothers and my mom are all going down to California to be with the rest of my family, and I have a 75% chance of having to work on Christmas eve (Saturday) when they're leaving Friday night. A pretty depressing thought at this point, but we'll see how that pans out.

Not as much to share as my last post, but like I said...I just wanted to talk.

Once again, +5 if you actually read and paid attention to that wall of text that has absolutely no meaning to you, whatsoever.

and some edit
Another coworker Justin just called me and told me he talked to my interest tonight and she asked if I was going to take her out again. Of course he played none the wiser, but he knows - and phoned me and let me know what she had to say. Accordingly, she had a great time and wants to go out again. But this makes me wonder. She's a very, very clever girl and knows Justin and I are good friends - of course he's going to tell me what she's got to say. I wonder if she's talking to him on purpose to provoke me to make more plans with her.

If you want something, go get it. Period.

"You got my birth certificate, you got Osama - anything else I can get you motherfuckers?"

From the memory hole: Bush rejects Taliban offer to surrender Bin Laden

The accidental live-tweet of the raid of Bin Laden's compound

Oh yeah. It was intentional.

We know who DIDN'T kill Osama!

I think everyone has Al Qaeda confused with a different group.

JFK On American Problem Solving:

We must face the fact that the United States is neither omnipotent nor omniscient; that we are only 6 percent of the world's population; that we cannot impose our will upon the other 94 percent of mankind; that we cannot right every wrong or reverse every adversity; and that therefore there cannot be an American solution to every world problem.

His reign is over.

10 years, two wars, 919,697 deaths and $1,188,263,000,000 later, we managed to kill one person. Was it worth it?

Yeah, there's already a topic about Bin Laden's death...but I thought I'd bring a little different side to it.

#1444728 If you ruled the world, what would you do?

Posted by travis on 26 April 2011 - 08:57 AM

Politicians? Fired. Every single one of them.
Bureaucracy? Get that shit out of here. Fuck paperwork.
The world would be run with a mild left-winged bias.
No more war.
I'm the sole proprietor of money. That's right. Your country needs funding for a program? I'll say yes or no. Need to settle an international dispute? I am the sole mediator.

And all fucking requests are sent digitally.

#1443998 I will now update you on my life.

Posted by travis on 24 April 2011 - 10:24 PM

I don't know if anyone is going to care, or anyone who I think may care is even still here (considering I haven't posted in a few months), but I wanted to share the what's been going on (in detail) over the past couple of years. We used to discuss these things, you see.

Chapter 1
I moved from Nevada to California in September 2009 (about 3 months after I finished highschool). I moved in with my dad so I could go to a school near where he lives and get a post secondary education. Left all my friends and my long time girlfriend (we decided to stay in a relationship) behind. Moved to a place where I only had family. I spend the next year and a half busting my balls (okay, not really. I went to an auto tech trade school. This type of thing comes easy to me) carrying a 4.0 GPA and 100% attendance, while trying to co-run my dad's business (i.e. doing everything that wasn't sales related) and keep the house clean. This meant cleaning up after 7 people - 5 women, my dad and myself. They're all fucking pigs. I was also put to work on property maintenance - lawn mowing, dog shit, dog feeding etc. To add to this, any time ANYTHING broke or was functioning properly it was my job to fix it (3000sqft house and a 3/4 acre property...so much work for one person). Right the fuck then. Maintenance on the cars. And running to the grocery store / 7-11 / where ever else the fatasses I lived with were too lazy to do. The amount of time I had to myself was next to none. Then another person moves into the house - my dad's girlsfriend's daughter. "Mom I'm pregnant, save me". I was booted out of my bedroom, with no choice, due to it being my dad's girlfriend's house. So I stayed in a toy-hauler in the driveway for 4 months. Yeah. A trailer. I finally got sick of it. I cleaned out the copious amounts of trash and junk from the back room (office / storage) and tore down the walls. Wired in some outlets and lighting, stuffed in some insulation, and hung fresh drywall. Bought an A/C unit and put it in the window. Fuck yeah. My own room detached from the house. Noone's gonna fucking bug me. Wasn't too bad, except for the west-facing windows during summertime sunset. Ontario, California. Way too hot for that shit. I continued being the family bitch for the next 10 months. The stress took its toll - I couldn't handle a relationship. I left my girlfriend of 3 years. Sad, now that I think about it. Dated one of my exes..who lived in another state. Why I did that, I really don't know. Dumb idea. Left her. Got back with 3-year ex. Still couldn't handle a relationship. Left her. Still being family bitch. I really had no choice - I lived there for free. I used my dad's and his girlfriend's cars to get to school. What could I have done? Finally, February 2011 rolled around. Time to graduate from school and get the fuck out of this pisshole. Throughout this entire 18 month stint, I had not left the house for a social activity - except for a concert - once. I was so relieved to be able to leave. I hadn't had a curfew since I was 15 - but my dad decided it would be a good idea to play parent and throw me a curfew of 12am for when I did attempt to go somewhere (mind you I hadn't lived with this man since I was about 3 - nor did he have a significant role in my life). So I never went anywhere. Anyways. Grad day comes. Good day. Dinner with my mom and grandparents from out of state. Never got dinner with my dad - said he couldn't afford it. Funny...his girlfriend's daughter got a $1,000 check, a car, and a $600 dinner for her high school graduation.
Extra thought: My dad tried to bribe and convince me numerous times to stay in his home. He offerred me a car to use, no rent, etc etc. - threw in my face that there's no work in Vegas for me and I won't be able to find a job -
I considered it. Being the family bitch kicked that out.
Extra thought: I forgot to put in that I graduate with honors society, NATEF "National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation" recognition, 12 director's list awards and 8 top in class rewards.

Chapter 2
So around this time my mom got her tax refund check in. Threw me a grand. Bought myself an 86 Benz. Lame ass car, but it worked. As soon as the paperwork for that car was done and the title was in my hand, I was gone. March 5th, I was fucking out of that house. I was so excited to get back to Vegas - I was doing at least 100mph the entire drive home.
During the last couple of weeks in my dad's home, I had reconnected with a girl that I had a short fling with (oh man the feelings were so intense though) in my Junior year of high school.
She got in to drugs and had to be forcibly placed in a rehab facility after a near death experience...really sucked. We had talked (and had a couple of flings) since she had come back from rehab, but they never worked out - because she was always with someone, or I was with someone, when we were talking. This time I was single and so was she (although she does now have a 10 month old son). I got back to my mom's house in Vegas, and the first thing I did was take the 2 boxes (yeah, I fit all my possessions into 2 boxes + a suitcase) out of the back seat of my car and then I went up to her house. About 8pm. We spend the rest of the night together - I didn't get her home until 6 am. This may be a little TMI and too graphic, but it's a crucial part. We ended up sleeping together, and oh my god. It was by far the most incredible thing I have ever experienced in my life. And I'm not talking about how great she was in bed, either. We made love. Hot, passionate love. An hour and a half of it. I have never felt so passionate and so connected with someone. It was absolutely amazing and indescribable. We spent most of our free time together. Now, I'm a very, very sexual person. I'm horny all the time and dammit I need to get some. It was different with her. The thought of sleeping with her rarely crossed my mind. I didn't feel like I needed to sleep with her to be close to her. I didn't even need to cuddle, hug or kiss her all the time. It was just different. I was pleased purely with being in her company. She's different. Special.
Anyways. I ran to all 5 Ford dealerships in town and a couple of independent repair shops that were all actively hiring (I specialized in Ford and already had 11 factory certifications before even working in the field). I spend weeks running call backs and leaving voice mails. Nobody ever called me back - and nobody was ever around when I called. 2 weeks I chased around 8 places. No fucking luck and I was starting to think my dad was right about finding work here.
Heading up to my girlfriend's house I decided on a whim to stop at a Chevrolet dealership. Why not. The service director just HAPPENED to be in - and I just happened to have a resume in my car. I met with him and he flipped through my resume and asked me a few questions. He asked me what I wanted to get paid...I really had no idea. I told him that. He told me that he'd like to start me at $18 an hour on a flat rate pay scale. I agreed - and I thought to my self.."am I really about to get hired on the spot from a walk-in?"
And I was. We walked up to the HR department, he set me up with a packet of paperwork which I dutifully filled out. My hair was snipped, bagged and labeled for drug testing.
Fucking awesome day.
2 weeks later he calls me back. "We'll see you on Monday for work!"
Greatest feeling of accomplishment I've ever had. Once I was accustomed to the flow of things at work, things went great. I was always busy - business booming. Then, my first Thursday at work comes along. I get a job to replace a steering column, under warranty. The job paid for .8 hours - I spent 4 hours trying to remove the goddamn thing, and 2 more putting the new one in. Turns out I broke some components related to the SRS/airbag system. I cost the company $200, and the parts to replace what I broke were 8 days away. That's a rental car for the customer. Man, I felt like shit - first week and I'm breaking shit already. Not to mention I spent about 7 hours not getting paid. Long day at work, I looked forward to going home to a beer. Too bad my car's transmission decided to go out on the opposite side of town from my house and my cellphone was dead. Spent 4 hours trying to contact someone. Friday, I did a brake job. I was way too busy with way too many things and didn't get enough sleep. I wasn't paying full attention to what I was doing. I completed the service and put the vehicle back down from the lift to drive it out - but I forgot to pump the brake pedal. I put the car in drive...and BAM. I smashed a car into my $3,000 toolbox, rendering the locking mechanism and two drawers useless (which I ended up restoring to working order). FUCK. The car was not damaged at all and I didn't cost the company any money - but my new nickname is "crash". I worked my ass off the week after that. End of the pay period - I ended with 110 hours on the clock, and 126 worth of work flagged out (which means I got paid for 126 hours). My first paycheck comes in and I'm fucking elated - $2000. Fucking AWESOME. I bought clothes, I bought tools (oh god how I hate buying tools), I bought a bed (was sleeping on the couch), and I bought a ring to put on my girlfriend's finger. That Saturday I took her to the Floyd Lamb - Tule Springs state park, a place she is quite fond of. We walked around for a while until I found a spot that I found to be quite beautiful. I stepped behind her, hit the floor, everyone do the dinosaur.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I stepped behind her, wrapped my arms around her...gave her a kiss on the cheek and asked her what she thought about spending the rest of her life with me (something we had discussed before...marriage et al). She expressed that she would be quite fond of the idea...so I took the ring from my pocket and presented it to her without even saying anything. (I was still standing behind her. I think it's too cheesy to get on one knee). She spun around, kissed me and started crying hysterically, after a few minutes calmed down enough to look at me and say yes. That is now the number one greatest feeling of accomplishment in my life. We left the park and headed over to a local tattoo shop, where I had "Vous et nul atres" (You and no other) written on my ring finger (I can't wear a ring in my line of work).
And that was up to about a week ago. Nothing eventful since then.

TL;DR spend a bunch of time as a lonely fucking slave, graduated post-secondary school, went back home, got a job, broke some shit, got a bunch of money, bought some shit, got engaged.

+5 if you actually read this entire fucking post.

#1443973 Seven long years

Posted by travis on 24 April 2011 - 09:15 PM

My 7-year codexiversary is coming up.
I probably won't remember it to come and post about it on May 1st.
So I'll post about it now.
SEVEN. YEARS.
That's such a long time.
Since I was 13

Wow.
I remember I was a total loser when I signed up here and shit - stayed inside all day and played CS for like 12 hours straight. Almost no friends.
And now I'm about to move into my own place, I'm engaged, and I work full freakin' time and I'm rarely home if I'm not at work.
Codex has been through so much with me.
I love you guys.
Seriously.
Not joking.
Although I rarely get a chance to come here, I love you guys.
I legitimately think that if Codex were ever to disappear off of the internet, I'd be heartbroken. Not exaggerating.
A piece of me would be missing.

Anyways. Yay for seven years!
SEVEN MOER!

Edit: I haven't even played Neopets for like 6 years. And I still come here...epic

I have made this thread to honor thy breasts of Georgina.

Every attractive female need be cherished; there's not enough of them.
Especially on the internet.
