#2029513 ValorSuite Web

Posted by Purrina on 27 May 2019 - 04:14 PM

@Purrina (or whoever knows), what is ValorSuite's IP to allow for authentication?

I'm running into the same issue, and I also have the option to use IP authentication.

When you have a proxy that is paid for, there are two ways to verify who is using it.

The first is username/password, and the 2nd is IP authentication. (more on that in a minute)

With username/password, I found that the paid proxy I used was near-unusable -- I couldn't AB nearly anything, couldn't Money Tree Grab - I was always too slow. I was really grumpy because my host was all "unlimited speeds", etc. It turns out the delay I was seeing was actually being caused by username/password authentication. It's an extra little bit of data that needs to be sent along and processed by the host, to verify that you actually are entitled to be using the proxy. Though it may not sound like much more then a few milliseconds -- it can be the difference between AB'ing a Faerie Krawk MP and ending up with a Split Lenny MP.

Valorous helped me set up IP authentication with my host, and it was a HUGE difference.

What "IP authentication" means is - every time a request is sent to the proxy host, the host verifies the IP the request came from automatically - no extra data (like (username/password) needs to be sent. By saving a few milliseconds, it will improve your latency in all areas of the site (and anywhere else you use the proxy, as well).

You will need to talk to your proxy host, and first see how many IP's they allow you to auth. I've seen anywhere from 1-10 IP's allowed, depending on the host. Ideally, you would like at least 2 IP's to auth -- one for your own IP and 1 for VSWeb.

The only problem will be that you will need to PM @Valorous to have him help you set up the IP auth, and he's been busy lately. You can use the username/password auth while you wait, but it will be a bit slower then IP Auth.

Disclaimer: I'm not very techie; this is just how things worked with my proxy host. If anyone wants to jump in and add more/better info, please do!

#2029453 [Guide] Userscripts and Userstyles

Posted by Purrina on 23 May 2019 - 07:37 AM

It would be nice to get any updates on this, looks like the site where the scripts are hosted is down

Instead of using userscripts.org (site is gone now); try using userscripts-mirror.org - it's a static mirror

You *should* be able to find most of the scripts there.

#2029029 ValorSuite Web

When it is implemented I will take option #2.

Thank you for offering a way for users to control their inventory on your to do list. I will try to be patient, but I hope it is available soon.

I have been getting home from work, making supper, getting an hour to myself then having to go to sleep for months now.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I remember doing that much at times in my life myself, and it sucked.
As Perdita wrote, I hope that at least you are getting worthwhile compensation for your time.

Does the daily problem still happen?

Yes. I've only caught it happening that one time - however, due to what I see when I log into my accounts manually I suspect it's happening more then I've noticed.
It's actually the same problem as Perdita write about last November in post 107 that's continued all this time.
http://www.neocodex....b/#entry2027742
(sorry, the link goes to the thread start and does not seem to go to the indicated post)

I've been consistently running ValorSuite with 10 or more accounts for many months now (Since at least November, I think?). I depend on ValorSuite to do the dailies, including Trudy. Trudy awards an avatar for 25 consecutive days of playing. If ValorSuite was working correctly and running the dailies every day, all accounts would have the avatar in the first month, right? Wrong. Of my accounts -- only TWO have the Trudy avatar.
I log into my accounts late at night, EST. Many, many times when I log in to clear my inventory by hand and see that Trudy's is not spun, bank interest is not collected, forgotten shore unexplored, etc. So I have to do all the dailies by hand anyway. I often just do trudy & bank interest and let the rest of the dailies go because of time constraints  :(
I think there is an inconsistency in how the dailies are being run in ValorSuite, and I personally feel it's because ValorSuite is programmed on UTC time so it recognizes "a new day" as starting at a much different time then Neopian Standard Time does.
So yes, the problem is still happening - or by now, all accounts that have been running in ValorSuite for 5+ months would have had 25 consecutive days of playing Trudy.

This project loses money every month. It has never been profitable and I have no time to put time into it.

I'm sorry to hear that ValorSuite is losing money every month.
I have a great appreciation for ValorSuite. ValorSuite has really helped me maintain an interest in Neopets - without it, I would have probably quit and left the accounts to rot by now.

I would like to show my support for ValorSuite financially, but I haven't paid for ValorSuite Premium because of the high cost, low benefits and that it covers only 1 account for 1 month.

Had you ever considered adding a less costly tier then Premium to increase the sales of ValorSuite? Like an Elite tier, with some added functionality over your basic free ValorSuite.

I don't have a lot of extra money for entertainment, and I'm already paying for the proxies to use ValorSuite which is literally about 80% of my entertainment budget. There's no way I can pay [the current cost] of Premium for 1 account for 1 month to gain access to foodclub, labray, and stocks. With no inventory control available in ValorSuite, I must log in to the account manually at least every other day or risk getting my bots disabled for a full inventory-to-SDB dump. If I must log in manually anyway, I can do those 3 little dailies by hand in under 10 minutes, if I wanted to do them at all.
ValorSuite is also competing against other "DailyDoer" apps and scripts that are free or membership-based; some of which offer not just ValorSuite Premium options, but "to do" list things and other options as well (like automated cupcaking).
So as things are, ValorSuite Premium isn't worth purchasing for my accounts.

Here's what would make me open my wallet for ValorSuite ...
- Show me a ValorSuite with inventory control, where at bare minimum I can set a rule that says "every x hours, dump all inventory to SDB" - this means I won't be forced to log in and clear my inventory every other day.
- Show me a ValorSuite that allows me to choose the timezone it runs on. I have a suspicion a lot of the recurring dailies problems are based around the start of a day in UTC time being 7 hours ahead from NST. Plus it would be easier to program bots based on either my time or NST time rather then UTC time.
- Show me a ValorSuite that allows users to choose to purchase or grab "unknown items" - now when new items are introduced, I won't be swearing at my logs for the first 3+ weeks as users of Abrosia and other ABer's grab all the new items to sell at a high profit while ValorSuite is still 'learning' about them. I should be the one to decide if I risk an unknown item buy/grab - then any issues with a 'poor grab' are my own choice, and not a shortcoming of the program.

Fix the current issues and add those 3 features and that's worth [1/10th of the current cost] per account per month to me.
And I mean, on every account I run. Every month. On AutoPay.

I understand you may counter with the current price of premium being [the current cost] for 1 account per month - but honestly, even if I could afford that (which I can't), what ValorSuite currently offers isn't worth it - I don't even have a lab map on most accounts, and I either ignore or manually do stocks and food club when forced to manually do inventory control. So I don't need Premium.

I more need something like an "Elite" tier - all the functionality of the basic free ValorSuite, but with inventory control, timezone control, and unknown item options - and I'd be willing to pay a reasonable price for them.

I honestly do feel the current price of ValorSuite Premium is too high for what it offers. This is in NO WAY to discount your awesome efforts as a programmer Valorous - you are much appreciated for all your work on ValorSuite! This is more a reflection of my entertainment budget and how to spend it on what will entertain me all month long.

Please consider my suggestion(s) for potential changes to ValorSuite Premium. Thank you.

-> I've a new ValorSuite issue to mention ... ValorSuite is not rejecting FaerieQuests from Kaia. Kaia is a new(er) faerie from the Wraith's Resurgence plot. Her quests are to ask for a NeoCash item in your inventory AND to demand it be presented to her in a 75 NC pink bag from the NC mall. ValorSuite seems to get stuck on "Handling FaerieQuest" and then you have to go in and reject the quest manually, then return and indicate your availability to quests to Fyora in about 10 minutes.

Do you think you could have an option to grab or skip unknown items, rather than skipping automatically? This item is worth millions :o

I agree 100+% with you. I have had the same situation myself, multiple time, where ValorSuite has cost me millions by ignoring an "unknown item". There was once an item that came from a rare item code in 2008 - it was given to the money tree (like seriously, WTF are you thinking to donate this?) and ValorSuite skipped it. You can't even find this item to buy on the trading post in months, yet there it was within my grasp -- and it got skipped. So frustrating!
I have previously asked about the possibility of ValorSuite to allow users to chose to accept "unknown items" [post 124 of this thread] if the item was from 2008 and the database can't index it, it's not doing a very good job finding items in 11 years. Valorous has replied that he does not wish to allow users that option. [post 125 of this thread]

Speaking of compensation, wouldn't it make sense to, for example, make Valorsuite Web exclusive for Advanced Members and increase the price of advanced membership a bit? [SNIP] I know there's Valorsuite Premium, but you receiving a part of the price of advanced membership is probably a more reliable way of income for you, and it would make sense for Neocodex too as VS offers in part similar bots that advanced membership offers - I'm thinking of Advanced Abrosia, so the sales of memberships could increase and everyone would profit.

I agree that Valorous should be compensated for ValorSuite.
However, I don't agree with your idea of both requiring advanced membership AND increasing the price of the membership as being the best route.

Assuming that 'advanced membership' sales would remain stable is not a given. Any price increase often has customers stop to look at what they are getting for their money. Members could choose go elsewhere for similarly priced options that had kept their prices the same while they offer apps that have the same if not wider options.
If you plan to raise the price of a product, be prepared to tell your customers why they should pay more. Show your customers the value of what they are getting.
In short, you should first ensure your "to do" list doesn't look like someone else's "already done" list.

This part reflects on just my personal experiences -- I don't like the idea of paying for a NeoCodex advanced membership for ValorSuite; because I see them as two separate things.
I'm not fond of the fact that when I tried Abrosia, it bought a bunch of school supplies that it assured me were a "great profit" but I sold at a great loss because of the database being flat out wrong by 10k+ NPs each. When your new account only has 50k NPs and Abrosia spent it all on stuff you can now sell for 5k - well yeah, still feeling salty about that. I'm assured the database pricing is updated through the program, so there's no need (indeed, no way!) to correct database prices on anything that's not 'unbuyable'. So after that loss, I feel like NTY to Abrosia. I accept that it works well for other people - indeed some have had amazing successes with it, but I didn't have such a good go with it and I don't feel like trying again right now.
The rest of the program manager is great ... when it works. I have a problem with Dice-A-Roo not working on a Mac, and yet NO ONE has been able to lift one finger to even reply to my help request SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018. I've had a support ticket open at Neopets for literally the same amount of time, and it's also been ignored. Help requests that ignore you as long as TNT does isn't a selling point for me. Frankly, it really dissuades me from purchasing advanced membership because I feel like if I have any problems after I pay, they will likely be ignored too.

I've already detailed why I personally don't pay for ValorSuite Premium, based on how the current bots require manual management of the account and since I'm already forced to log in frequently to avoid item dumps that disable my bots, it's little more effort to do what ValorSuite Premium offers myself.
I've clearly explained what would make me open my wallet and pay, on a regular monthly basis, for ValorSuite. I do have reason to believe this would appeal to others as well, especially if the price was more affordable then it currently is.

Valorous should be compensated as the programmer, but I also feel the cost of the server should be covered so the project does not lose money every month.
I would want to know who pays for those servers - because that should also determine where the money should go to.

#2028577 Quick and Easy Neopets Questions!

Posted by Purrina on 07 February 2019 - 07:54 AM

Anyone ever noticed how pets are created named after your account?   Is this TNT?   I have plenty of accounts that were iced and have a Gelert named after my account, a Lupe, a Shoyru..     Most of them are Gelerts.     Anyone else noticed this?     Im wondering if it's a code they use as reminders why the accounts were iced or used to flag suspicious accounts etc

I just recently bought a shell with a name matching account name & pet gelert, created the same day as the account. I wrote the matching names off to the original account creator being 9 years old with not a lot of creativity.

However, I think you have an interesting question. I've read TNT can remove/return transferred pets, and even modify pets that were GUP'ped or converted back to another species or color, even unconverted. Do I believe TNT could create a pet and modify the creation date - sure, they seem to have that ability.

I'm not sure what kind of system they would have though, especially seeing as they seem rather overwhelmed as it is.

@Coops

I was thinking of you today and wanted to share some good news ...

So after nearly half a year of looking, we found the right house. It's not 100% perfect but it's close enough for us. We've worked through home inspection, legal estate paperwork (it's an estate, which is even more paperwork!)) and mortgage and finally the bank is ready with our mortgage - now all we need to do is get all 3 lawyers together in the same place for half a day, right before Christmas. *sighs*

But it's getting done, and hopefully we will be in our new home by New Years.

I see you haven't been by in awhile, I hope things are going OK at your end.

#2028171 neopets admin after go back to transfers Can after ?

Posted by Purrina on 08 December 2018 - 08:10 AM

Disclaimer: I have never done this, and I have no personal experience with this method of transfer.

I just was reading about ways to transfer items, and that was one of the methods suggested.

It was suggested because if there ever was a reason for an account to be looked into, TNT might look at an account, see it was frozen, think someone else already "fixed the problem" and move along. Apparently. this worked quite well for a number of years.

However, later posts in the thread said that while it was a commonly used method awhile ago, TNT staff are now "catching onto this" and if there's enough of a reason to look into an account, having it "self frozen" doesn't deter them - I seem to recall one person saying they felt it made the situation worse / made them look into it more.

From what I have read I *believe* the answer is yes - even in a frozen/self-frozen account TNT can still see account information like transfers of items.

I would have voted "I play every day" but the guild I belong to died out with Keyquest, so I couldn't honestly say that.

#2027357 What up bitches?

Posted by Purrina on 28 September 2018 - 07:31 AM

Here it is autumn - the leaves are turning colors, and it's quite pretty.

We have been looking for a new home for months now, and no luck.

There was one home I was OVER THE TOP IN LOVE WITH, and we bid on it. We actually bid slightly over their asking price because I wanted it so much - and we were outbid. I kicked myself for not bidding higher until our real estate agent mentioned we were outbid by "a substantial margin" ... so I guess someone wanted the house much more then we did.

Now part of the problem is every home I see I compare to the one I lost, and it really doesn't measure up. I do want to find something soon though, as I don't want to move in the winter again.

So I'm getting ready for a weekend of house hunting * fingers crossed *

#2027158 Would you have a kid with your friend?

Posted by Purrina on 13 September 2018 - 09:40 AM

I can see where it may seem more appealing to have a child with a friend then with a lover, but I would never do that.

First, I'm not a child friendly person. I love my nieces and nephews, but I also like giving them back after a few hours. I wouldn't want one full time.

Second, thanks to lack of forethought to get genetic counseling on the part of my parents (who were teens at the time and not thinking about much more then their hormones *sigh*), I carry some pretty unfriendly hereditary diseases in my genes. I would not want to pass that along to anyone.

Finally, I would be afraid it would ruin the friendship.  I've seen some "friends with benefits" relationships work, but I've seen a lot more of them crash and burn.
