Stannis & co. have been growing on me for the last season or so.

They're finally being depicted they way they are in the novels. Sad, depressing outsiders who get shit done (you'll see). They made Stannis seem like a shithead for fucking the red woman in the show. I'm pretty sure he didn't commit adultery in the books. You were too distracted by the red woman's round boobies to notice how cool Team Dragonstone is. Wake up, people. Stannis is the rightful heir to the throne and his loyal buddy Davos is an honorable smuggling badass.

Yeah, bastards are like, the lowest of the low. Jon Snow, Ramsey Snow, Ellaria Sand, and Gendry are all bastards. Technically, all of Cersei's kids are bastards born of incest, but Ned Stark took that 'secret' to the grave. There are levels of class that get blurred. Brienne of Tarth, Bran Stark, Arya Stark, Theon Greyjoy, Sam Tarly... are all of noble birth, but are in situations where they look like peasants. The Ex-Mrs. Robb Stark, Melisandre, Littlefinger, Davos, Varys... those fuckers are nobodies who have gained esteem above their born statuses (but lol Varys still wasn't allowed at the adult table).

 

Bastards are pretty low on the totem pole, but I guess slaves would be at the bottom.

 

Dany has like a bajillion slaves and one dude who looks like a burnt gingercat following her around. Khalessi is basically a queen of dogshit.

I haven't read the books, but I'm also inclined to believe she's not going to make it (at least not how she intends to).

I've been irritated by the Jaime diehards on tumblr who say the rape was out of character. Isn't Jaime's defining characteristic his selfishness? And I would bet that Jaime (like many rapists) would believe that what he did wasn't rape and that Cersei "wanted it."

Because it isn't quite so clearcut as rape in the books; Cersei protests about the risk and being in the Sept etc and he never "hears" her, but she certainly gets into it, then goes immediately cold afterwards - more like how she was after kissing him in the episode. I definitely didn't read it as being so violent so it seemed a bit gratuitous.

 

I've found myself growing to like him more in the series, than I did in the same portion in the books and it's all been whipped away in one scene. Saying that, that's GoT, you're never sure what side of the good/bad line anybody is.

 

In other news, I'm so bored of Dany now, even when she's doing vaguely cool things.

I haven't read the books (past the first half of GoT), so I didn't know that it was portrayed differently.

 

Even if it was different, I don't find it inherently gratuitous. To me, it wasn't too surprising for Jaime to force himself on Cersei. It always seemed like his love for Cersei was far more grounded in how she makes him feel, rather than the other way around. Also I just don't like him.

 

Similarly - in the show, Dany is raped by Khal Drogo, which makes a hell of a lot more sense than a 14 year old girl initiating sex with a terrifying 30 year old man with whom she can't even speak.
