Sorry Cody :p

I realize that 9/11 affects people in ways much greater than it affected me; I was 10/grade 5 when I heard about it and wasn't exactly sure about what it really even meant. Being from Canada it didn't affect me too greatly, nor did I understand why anyone would even fly an airplane into a building in the first place

Honestly, this is good news and I'm glad that it happened even if it meant the death of another human. But I'm more interested in what's going to happen next; is the war over? Will the troops come back? What will the politicians say now if they want to keep the war going? Like it or not, there are other factors for this war than the ones when it first started. I guess we'll see.

That would be a pretty weird mission wouldn't you say? To go after one person...the mission as I believe it was to prevent any more terrorist attacks and nab the guys responsible for 9/11. In those respects you could say it is accomplished but America was ever in any real danger.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it common knowledge that the CIA nabbed some dude back in the 80's and after some questioning he fingered Bin Laden as the figurehead and leader of Al Quaeda. Until then he was more of a "sponser" for their missions...

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." - G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

Dunno what you are talking about on the second bit.

Well alright then, mission accomplished, carry on...just saying it's a very hollow victory...

Edit: I'll try to find a source on the 2nd part

Edit: found something relevant on Al-Qaeda's wiki:

The reality was that bin Laden and Ayman Zawahiri had become the focus of a loose association of disillusioned Islamist militants who were attracted by the new strategy. But there was no organization. These were militants who mostly planned their own operations and looked to bin Laden for funding and assistance. He was not their commander. There is also no evidence that bin Laden used the term "al-Qaeda" to refer to the name of a group until after September the 11th, when he realized that this was the term the Americans had given it.

The guy I'm talking about is Jamal al-Fadl. It was his testimonies that put together the picture of al qaeda as a unified organization that you know today. And it's pretty widely accepted that he was bull shitting.

    One of his lawyers:

There were selective portions of al-Fadl's testimony that I believe was false, to help support the picture that he helped the Americans join together. I think he lied in a number of specific testimony about a unified image of what this organization was. It made al-Qaeda the new Mafia or the new Communists. It made them identifiable as a group and therefore made it easier to prosecute any person associated with al-Qaeda for any acts or statements made by bin Laden

I can't undo the underlining shit, I hate this new editor...

We should welcome justice not demise. Anyone who has killed another unjustly should be punished with death. Justice is important to humanity.

We shouldn't celebrate death but justice.

    Exactly.

The death of Bin Laden can finally bring a sense of justice to those who were killed on 9/11. :)

No, he was not solely responsible for 9/11, but he was the leader of Al Qaeda and thus the burden of blame is placed highest upon him.

Not to sound like a huge d-bag, but I remember when I was chem in HS when 9/11 happened..I wasn't too devastated I guess...Maybe a bit indifferent, but it was a sad situation. However, shit like this happens all the time and I guess I just got used to the world being such a place.

That being said, glad Osama is dead, however were these 2 wars worth all the sacrifice? I mean we could have had Osama back in the 80s, in the 90s and even after 9/11 happened and yet we didn't...

Refer to my edited post. He was not the leader.

Regardless of if you believe that Al Qaeda was a firm organization or a loose group of militants, Bin Laden was still the figure head of the 9/11 attacks. More importantly, he has been the symbolic leader of Al Qaeda for a number of years now, even if he has not been the active leader.

Furthermore, you may not understand this moment from the perspective of someone who was directly affected by 9/11, but please do understand that to some this news brings forth a sense of justice.

Who knows who was responsible for 9/11. I always thought his vid was just taking credit for something he could. However I think there are facts that others were unjustly killed. Embassy bombing etc.

War gets some people rich, people who doesn't want it to end, and have enough power to make it continue... Unfortunately, the death of Osama won't end it. What he did was terrible, but... celebrate? I agree with Noit on that, we should celebrate the justice that was made on the life of so many people, not his death. I kinda agree with Argue, btw.
Stupid war and violence, I wish both only existed on movies and books, and that the human being would be able to feed their instinctive needs on them. So many deaths for one cause, would that be enough? Is life worthless in front of a cause? I mean, "3000 people lost their lives, but hey, Osama is dead! YEY!"...
But then, what can I say, I'm just a foreign person...

You are apparently too limited in your scope of political ideology. I disagree with Bush in his big government policies. That has absolutely nothing to do with supporting our troops who have been fighting for 10 fucking years for a day like today. That speech he gave was incredibly memorable and the line very applicable. I also disagree with Obama frequently, but it doesn't mean I don't support the position of the President of the United States or his words in support of our troops. I am not loyal to the president, I am loyal to my country, our troops, and our fellow patriots.

Get your head out of your ass.

You have attacked me on several occasions for supporting the war.

And suddenly you are all for supporting the troops, after attacking me a thousand times for supporting them and their efforts out there.

    Its so disgusting.

People not in the army/military just don't understand that killing him is like it's good and all but it's not the end-all you know? It's so much more complicated than people know..my dad is an E7 in the military..

I've spoken with several friends in the army. The Marines are cheering and feeling badass like they always do, but everyone with high enough rank to not be a ground soldier understand what this really means.

This is amazing news to wake up to!

I'm so glad and proud of the American, British, and other forces that have been involved in this war.

I'm sure the families of many of the 3000 or so victims of 9.11 and thousands and thousands of Military and civilian casualties feel as though Justice has been done.

Even though I am not directly involved, this is without question great news and my personal opinion of those who say "I don't care" need to maybe take a moment and think about the people who have suffered so much loss and tragedy.

My friend lost his mom in 9/11. He doesn't feel better at all. You can seek revenge as much as you want, but when its all said and done, the person you lost is still dead.

The people who say, "I don't care" don't need to do anything. It's not their war, and nothing that they do will change anything at all about it. Does it really matter at all if they don't care that hes dead? No. Because them not caring wont bring him back to life. Them not caring wont kill anyone else. Its just they don't care.

    A) I'd like to see some of these occasions in which I attacked you for supporting the war.
    B) There is a MAJOR difference in supporting the war and supporting the troops. I think that our constant involvement in the Middle East is awful and really only comes back to bite us in the ass. That does NOT mean that I do not support the troops that fight for our nation.
    C) I'd LOVE to see a post where I attacked you for supporting our men and women in uniform.
    D) Regardless of political ideology, I would think we could all unite as Americans and celebrate that some level of justice has been brought about through the death of OBL.

One person doesn't vouch for the feelings of thousands of the other people who lost family sorry Iargue.

And I am allowed my opinion, as you are yours, I just wanted to give a small reminder to some to put themselves in the positions of loosing someone during that time, and to have the "Leader" brought down would most likely be a positive thing for many, I'm sure you will disagree, surprise surprise, but again, I can only speak for myself.

I think this thread is fucking ridiculous and disgusting.

A man died. He was a very bad man but he's not the only one out there who has the same ideologies. To celebrate this as a victory is hollow. This shit is still going to happen. As a leader, OBL had followers who are more than likely very pissed off at the moment and have ways and means to still harm us. Our troops are not safe; this does not end a war.

Killing OBL is not justice for my dear cousin who died in the towers on that fateful day. To me, that fucker deserved to live and be tortured, and burned alive the way our citizens were; but that would have the civil rights people all over my ass, so I digress.

To give someone shit from a different country for our "win" is fucking obnoxious, and perpetuates our oblivious and egotistical stereotype as Americans. You sure as hell don't see us celebrating the "wins" of other countries.

Our Men and Women in Arms are still very much in a dire situation. I support our troops for fighting for my rights here and making my life better by proxy but I was never for this war. It's not going to bring back who we lost.

I also think it's ridiculous that people are suddenly supporting Obama, who have been bashing him ever since he was elected. I am displeased that this will up his ratings with the general populace.

I agree with you. What I noticed is that people have forgotten that the ones who actually carried out the murder of their friends and family died at the same time they did. There will always be masterminds, and there will always be people ready and willing to die on command. OBL was supposedly one of the leaders, but it was his followers who carried it through. With people that brainwashed and devoted to their cause, Americans should be even more alert. It's a celebration now, but things can go pretty badly. An example from my country, a man involved with bandits was killed. People celebrated. The bandits retaliated and wiped out almost an entire family of a government official. It's worrying how many people seem to think it's all over now.

I'm not going to bother finding posts from years and years ago. You can do that if you want to prove me wrong.

And what kind of justice is killing someone who is willing to die for his cause? You act like this is a victory for us. What is the objective of a terrorist? To inspire fear. He did that.

They are suicide bombers. They have already given their lives up for the cause. Death is nothing for him, as he knows how many americans died before he did.

There will be no justice until his entire cause and organization is eliminated.
