That's why we have user feedback.
Rep is a form of user feedback.
I think rep, which used in the context of a trader's trustworthiness, is an extremely practical solution to minimizing scamming.

Is this 100 posts overall or 100 posts per member?

(who is Patrick though?)

1) Referrals contest: Prizes awarded to the people who recruit the most active members, not just a mindless numbers exercise. We don't need any more shitty people - we have plenty. Make the prizes decent, too: Cash, and some forum perk or another.
We were planning to combine this along with our advertising campaign coming up. We have this rough "4 month" plan in the works where we want to get some target services up/improved before we do a referral contest and advertise, just to maximize the effect. So yes, I agree, but it won't happen immediately.
2) Change Advanced+ to applications. Monthly applications generate buzz, fun, activity. It doesn't have to be as stringent as Private used to be, just make it so that we know the nominees want Adv+, and that they're willing to put just a tiddly bit of effort into aquiring it. Probably a ppd and time requirement. Oh, and no exceptions.
I'm not opposed. It will require more management on the moderator side of things, but if we have the right people in place, it should be fine.
3) Officially set the standards for Retired. It used to be that only very old, interesting members were nominated into Retired. That's no longer the case, since the Private merger - so make that clear and official. Retired aint that great no more.
I thought this was already cleared up and people were free to nominate whoever they want. The standards are sort of defined by the people in Retired. You guys make the section what it is. I don't see any of these evil Private members raining on anyone's parade.
4) Add an old member perk. No new areas or anything like that, I'm suggesting mod powers in their own threads. Incentive to create interesting content, and a fun perk for committed members. Disabled on abuse, or while carrying warns.
You're very lucky IPB has a hook for this: http://community.inv...derators-33-32/
I would have no clue how to implement it otherwise.
5) Moderators. Get rid of Elindoril and Boggart. Promote me, or Patrick, or Cody, or... actually, that's all I can think of. Then tell them what they need to do, and how to do it. Go over the rules with them, fix the rules where required. Oh, and make sure they all have identical powers. Oh (2), and stop contradicting each other in public. Concerns are raised in the Staff area - that's what it's for.
We just need to get off our arses and make some changes. We know what changes need to be made, or at least I do.
6) Administration. You're doing fine with the coding and development, clearly. We're the most advanced we've been in years on that front. But for the love of all things good and holy, promote someone to deal with the people? Promote someone with the autonomy to make decisions with people, when they need it, without farting around for months on end.
As far as "dealing with the people" goes, I think most of that responsibility falls on the moderators. Moderators do have a lot of autonomy as it is, and really the only time admins intervene is if an issue is escalated to them. If you mean in terms of announcements, engaging the public, etc., I guess you could count this very post as an administrator dealing with the people.
7) More announcements. Preferably about important stuff, like what's going on with the rules, the programs, the site-modifications. Maybe weekly updates on things like competitions, interesting debate threads, SotW winners, what's coming soon... Communication is king.
We would need some help with this. I can't be arsed to go and dig in debate threads, find who the SotW winners are, etc. The coming soon part is something I could help with, I think. Can you develop this idea a bit further in terms of whose responsibility it would be to prepare these bulletins?
8) Knock out a 100 post day before the end of Summer. Or one weekend.
It would be good for temporary enjoyment, but if you're looking for a permanent effect on activity, that won't work.We should look for a more permanent solution for boosting forum activity I think.
9) Stop free-for-all name changes. Jesus fuck, but that's annoying.
I'm not sure how I feel about this just yet. If it is bothersome, we should impose a limit. *reads others responses*
10) Remove rep.
Negative rep has failed in its purpose, I think. Positive can stay I think.
Edit: I would also remove this Vigilink shit, and look very seriously at removing image ads too.
Hydro was trying some random thing out. I think he'll remove it if enough people do not like it. Image ads are a significant source of revenue for the site now, and so that argument will be harder to pull off.

Funny how little of this you accomplished upon becoming staff.
So much for change.

Most(if not all) of those changes weren't up to him as a mod.

Yet as a staff member he could have continued to push them and gotten public support for some of this. Once he was a mod these changes that were discussed died in this thread.

Maybe they were discussed with the administrators and they decided against them.
Posted 02 March 2013 - 10:45 AM
Maybe... maybe not.

Maybe... maybe not.
And you have no way of knowing. So don't talk about shit you have no idea of.
Also, way to necro a thread just for the sake of being a douche.

I've done worse than grave digging a thread which is now relevant by recent events.

1. It's not relevant.
2. Good for you?
